ACTIVE ALLIANCE FOR CANADIANS WITH A DISABILITY – NWT
The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) is a national network that was created in 1989 to motivate and assist Canadians with a disability to become more physically active.

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Yellowknife Branch
The Yellowknife Branch of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association promotes public awareness of and self-help among the hard of hearing, they advocate for accessibility, and they organize a volunteer-run support group.

Canadian Mental Health Association – NWT Division
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. The CMHA accomplishes this mission through advocacy, education, research and service. CMHA branches across the country provide a wide range of innovative services and supports to people who are experiencing mental illness and their families. In the NWT, the CHMA manages a help line.

DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Diabetes Education Program provides one-on-one counseling with a dietitian and a nurse on diabetes, nutrition, medication, and foot care. Referral to the program can be made by a doctor, or other health professional, or by self referral.

Fort Smith Society of Persons with Disabilities
The Fort Smith Society of Persons with Disabilities provides support, liaison and advocacy for persons with disabilities for improved access to all public facilities, services and employment on a level with their abilities. The organization also encourages and assists persons with disabilities to improve their independence and quality of life. Occasionally, they organize special events like evening computer training for people with disabilities and winter games.

The Hay River Committee for Persons with Disabilities provides peer support, advocacy, and awareness. They also facilitate education programmes and social activities. Finally, they arrange for handi-van services.

MS SOCIETY YELLOWKNIFE SELF-HELP GROUP
The MS Society provides services to people with multiple sclerosis and their families and funds research to find the cause and cure for this disease. The MS Society helps people navigate the challenges that MS presents through support services. This includes self-help groups, informal ways to link people with common concerns to share emotional support and practical ideas.

Northwest Territories Housing Corporation
The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation supports people with disabilities through the administration of two programmes. The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program provides funding in the form of a forgivable loan and/or repayable loan for modifications/renovations allowing for barrier-free homes. The Seniors and/or Disabled Preventative Maintenance Initiative provides a forgivable loan to seniors and/or disabled citizens who own and occupy their own home to allow for annual maintenance, servicing and minor repairs.
